Which cookies CiteReal sets and why

Necessary cookies

These are required for the site to work and cannot be switched off:

  • Session cookie (better-auth.session_token): keeps you signed in. Expires when you sign out or after the session lifetime.
  • Security cookies: short-lived tokens that protect sign-in forms and OAuth redirects.
  • Preference cookies: your language and light/dark theme choice.

We also use browser session storage (not a cookie) to carry a draft reference list from the homepage to the checker. It is cleared as soon as it is read.

Analytics

When page analytics are enabled, they count page views without cross-site tracking cookies. We do not run advertising or marketing cookies, and we do not sell visitor data.
